1. How can I vote for this website?

You can vote on this page.

2. Can I have a banner to put on my site?

Sure! Just copy and paste this html code to your site where you would like the banner to be. It will always update how many visitors and everyone on your site can keep track!

3. What is the idea?

The idea is simple: to try and make some money by selling the icons on my computer desktop and to publish the corresponding screenshot on the internet. How much money? I don't know, let's say one million of bucks. Hence, "The Million Dollar Screenshot". The main motivation for doing this is to get enough money to start a software company without putting at risk my family. This is also a good opportunity to learn SEO and website promotion. But the first priority is the satisfaction of the advertisers: to be cheaper than other forms of online advertising. The software company will be funded in June 2006.

So, everyone is welcome to buy one of my desktop icons.

When you buy an icon, you can then display an image/ad/logo of your choice in the space you have purchased. You can also have the image click through to your own website. However, no obscene or offensive images are allowed. You can buy as many icons as you like, as long as there are some available but each icon must link to a different site and have a different image.

The icon you buy will be displayed permanently on my desktop and so on the screenshot. While I may change things on my desktop, for example the background, the icons will stay and their relative position won't change. Using some of the money I make from the site, I guarantee to keep the screenshot online for at least 5 years and probably more. So, in the long run, I believe these icons will offer good value. This is the first time someone is selling space on his computer desktop and you will own a piece of it!

4. Is it a joke?

It may sound as a joke but it is not. I'm really selling icons on my desktop. Right now, the price is $100 each. A screenshot of my desktop is then published with links. Many people will click on them and they will go to the corresponding website. If you have a website, you may want some space of my desktop to put your icon.

5. What is the business plan?

  1. Build an attractive website based on an original idea
  2. ???
  3. Profit!

6. Will you have enough room for 10000 icons?

No. Right now, my screen is only 1024x768. This will limit the number of icons to one hundred. Each icon is sold for $100 so we are far from one million of dollars. But I have some ideas. The first one is to buy a bigger screen. And that may happen quite soon if people buy my icons. My other ideas are kept secret: they will surprise you!

7. Will the price change?

Maybe. But it will never decrease. So the sooner, the cheaper. However, I reserve some icons (the first row) that will be sold on eBay. The auctions will start at $1. But I expect the final price to be much higher than $100.

8. Can I buy an icon in the first column?

No. The first column is reserved for my own use. These icons may link to external sites I like or to my own sites.

9. What about PR?

PR (Google PageRank) is an indicator by Google that can push you to the top on Google Search results. Since March, 3rd, this website has a quite good PR of 6. By buying an icon, you will have a direct link to your website on this page, that will probably have a PR of 5 at the next Google dance.
